Valley Sports Foundation (VSF) was originally formed in 1996 by founding members Murad Siam, Andre Chevalier, Ted Jeries and Melissa Hearlihy. VSF is a non-profit 501(c)3 Foundation dedicated to the organization and promotion of youth athletic events throughout the San Fernando Valley, Simi Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, and Conejo Valleys to provide both male & female athletes, who do not necessarily play on a school team, with year-round sports programs and opportunities at little or no cost to the student participants. Events are open to individual athletes, club team organizations, and middle and high school teams.
As a non-profit organization, VSF’s goal is to solicit sufficient contributions to subsidize all of its athletic events, allowing the participation of all student athletes, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Over the years, these events have included basketball tournaments, spring and summer basketball leagues, and sports camps serving thousands of students in the surrounding valley areas of Los Angeles. Any additional funds or services raised are contributed to local athletic programs and/or individual athletes who are deemed to be in need of financial aid by the Board of Directors.
In order to achieve this goal, Valley Sports Foundation sponsors the annual “Battle of the Valley” all-star game as its major fundraiser. The “Battle of the Valley” showcases the “best of the best” senior high school student talent, both male and female, in East Valley vs. West Valley finale exhibition games. These games have been televised on Time Warner Cable for the past 10 years and major donors have included Smart & Final, City National Bank and IDS Real Estate Group.
Valley Sports Foundation’s core objective is to create an athletic environment that develops a player both physically and mentally through the art of individual and team basketball competition, while challenging each student athlete to excel both in academics and in the community.
At the Valley Sports Foundation, our mission is to operate a non-profit foundation to organize youth sports and activities for local area athletic programs, and to solicit tax-exempt contributions from individuals or companies that reside, work or operate in the Greater San Fernando Valley Region. These activities will be in addition and subordinate to the athletes’ school athletic commitments.
All funds raised will be used to cover costs associated with the various contests, activities and administration of the foundation. Any net profit generated from this enterprise will be contributed to local host schools’ athletic programs and individual athletes who are deemed to be in need of financial aid by the Board of Directors.
